It’s the return of the King

Jesus Christ is King!

For believers, this is undeniable!  But for a lot of people, this title, Christ the King, is pretty meaningless.  Is Jesus the King without a Crown?  The 20th century Soviet dictator, Stalin, once famously said, “How many divisions does the Pope have?”  I suppose the same could be said about Jesus.  Even from the Cross, Jesus’ enemies taunted Him, “If He is God’s Son, let Him come down from that Cross!”.

Jesus is our King because Jesus has conquered the world.  Think of the things that we believe about Jesus:

1. We believe that Jesus brings us eternal life.  Jesus brings us final victory over death.

2. Jesus brings us freedom from our sins.  We are set free from the things that burden us by the way of life that Jesus teaches us.

3. Jesus gives us special grace to be especially forgiving, and to be peacemakers.

4. Jesus brings us together as one family of Faith, one Church.

Yes, it has been a tough few years for the Church.  It has been a tough time for Christian families.  Our Nation drifts further and further away from God with each passing day.  But Christ is still alive in the hearts of His followers.  Where they are, so is Christ.  When Christ is Present in the world, He conquers it!

When we are younger, we all think that the world is going to open up all its wonders before us.  All that we will need to do is just show up, work hard, and be our best, and we will have it all.  It’s not so simple.  Life is beautiful, and there are so many exciting things that happen as we go through it.  But all of us come to certain points in our lives when we realize that the world doesn’t have all the answers.  The world doesn’t even have all the power.  Also, the world doesn’t even really need us.  We could be gone tomorrow, and the Earth will still revolve, the Sun will still come up.

It is in those times that we have a chance to turn to Christ, and ask Him to be our King.  When we accept His Kingship over our lives, then we are free to live life without fear.  We can endure any pain, overcome any obstacle.  We open our hearts to receive eternal spiritual gifts.  And we have hope that, when Christ comes again, He will renew the face of the Earth, and free it from corruption and death forever.

I think that this is the greatest promise going!  Is there any better news that we could receive than that God the Father has sent His Son to be our King?  He is the King of eternal peace, who fulfills all the promises of the Scriptures.  May we run to meet Him at His arrival.
