Let me share some Old Testament Scripture quotes on discerning a vocation. God’s Word speaks to us – God is the Living Word. May these words speak to your heart today!
Genesis 15:5 – “And God took Abraham outside and said, “Look at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”
Duerteronomy 30:19: “I call heaven and earth today to witness against you: I have set before you life and death. the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendents may live.”
Joshua 24:15 “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord!”
1 Samuel 3: 9 “Go to sleep, and if you are called, reply, ‘Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”
1 Samuel 16: 7 “Do not judge from his appearance or from his lofty stature, because I have rejected him. God does not see as a mortal, who sees the appearance. The Lord looks into the heart.”
Isaiah 6: 8 “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us? ‘Here I am,’ I said, ‘send me!'”.
Jeremiah 1:5 ” Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I dedicated you.”
Jeremiah 1:7 “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.”
Malachi 2: 14-16 “The Lord is witness between you and the wife of your youth, with who you have broken faith, though she is your companion, your covenanted wife. Did he not make them one, with flesh and spirit? And what does the One require? Godly offspring! You should be on guard, then, for your life, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth. For I hate divorce, says the Lord, the God of Israel.”
(quote not meant to codemn those who have divorced, but to encourage faithfulness within living marriages – Fr. Bill)
More to come from the New Testament at a later date. God bless!
